Sturdy is one of the nation's oldest manufacturers of super-premium dog food.

The company had a well established, but maturing brand. New investments in sales and marketing were required to maintain market share and brand equity. Idle plant capacity led to under performing fixed assets.

The owner had decided the best course of action was to retire and sell the business to someone with the capital to move the business forward.

Brereton, Hanley was engaged to facilitate the sale. We identified a regional market participant with a small chain of specialty pet food retail outlets and significant outside distribution channels. They were seeking a US source for dog food and biscuits to replace those imported from Europe.

Brereton, Hanley closed the transaction and the owners retired immediately.
